Boy, did this mani give me trouble or what! Not the making of it, but I could not think of a single mani idea that could represent an island. Luckily, my dear boyfriend had some ideas and inspired me, so I got the picture in my head in the last second. ;)
I don't think I need to say it again, but some of you may be new here. I do not like those "literal" nail arts, I didn't want to draw an island to my nails. I take those titles as an inspiration for the "regular", classy nail arts. Believe me, if I decided to draw on my nail, I'd me one unhappy child. Stamping on the other hand is a completely other thing, but unfortunately, I am not very well stocked with plates just yet.
So I decided to do the half moon mani, to make it look like the island is peeking on my nails. I started off with two coats of Essence Cafe Ole (Nude Glam line) and when that was completely dry, it was time to create the half moons. I couldn't decide which blue am I gonna use, so I opted for a little ombre experiment, allowing me to use 4 different shades of blue at once. Also, to spice up the otherwise relatively boring mani. ;)

Later on, I realized that all of my "blues" are slightly leaning to green, but sea looks kinda green, doesn't it?! So, the colors I chose are (pinky to index): Vera Valenti 4, Essence Sleepy, Essence Blue Lagoon, Essence Bonnie. I messed up the thumb fingernail, so I just left the thumbs nude.
Here's the nude polish on it's own. I really like how it looks against my slightly tanned skin!
Overall I was not satisfied with the mani at all. I want my manicures perfect, otherwise I'm itching to remove them ASAP. Like I did this one, while writing the post ;) I put a lot of work into this creation, there was SO much waiting for polishes to dry, fixing all the little mistakes, cleaning up 100 times, dealing with the staining form blue polishes... Ugh!
It bothers me how the shades on the index and pinky fingernail are so similar. An non-polish addicted eye would see them as the same (they are not dupes!) and from afar, it doesn't look like an ombre mani just because of this mistake. Also, the half moon edge was no as crisp as I wanted it to be (due to the not-so-well-stuck tape).
BUT I take all that as a practice, believing that my next half moon mani will be better (this one was my first take)! :) Also, I got reminded that I have not worn Blue Lagoon yet as a full mani, and now I'm itching to paint it all over my nubbins! ^_^
Oh and, excuse my super short nails, my index fingernail broke badly and I had to shorten them all. :(
